Sea Pines Drive Infrastructure Improvement Project: Phase 3

Sea Pines Drive Infrastructure Repair Project In Progress 

Phase 3 of the Sea Pines Drive infrastructure repair project is scheduled to begin early September 2022 with an estimated completion time of Spring 2023. To learn more about Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the project please click here.

Project work zones will include the below roadways:

  • 1.2 miles of Sea Pines Drive from Lighthouse Road to Baynard Cove Road
  • Red Cardinal Road – Drainage construction and resurfacing/paving roadway
  • Snowy Egret Road – Drainage construction and resurfacing/paving roadway
  • Wagon Road – Drainage construction and resurfacing/paving roadway
  • Sandhill Crane Road – Resurfacing/paving roadway
  • Please note, due to the nature of major infrastructure improvement work, unplanned water and or utility outages may occur. 

Project work along Sea Pines Drive will include:

  • Stormwater drainage upgrades and replacement
  • Roadway resurfacing and realigning
  • Realignment and widening of leisure trials
  • Addition of pedestrian crosswalks and curbing in select areas
  • Reconstruction of the leisure trail pedestrian timber bridge at Beachmarker #24.
  • New signage installation, tree work, and minor landscaping

Phase 3 Traffic Management Plan:

  • Work will be performed Monday-Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm with no work occurring on major holidays. Weekend work may be necessary but will be communicated in advance.
  • Signage will be placed throughout the work zones and at various locations within the community, to communicate project messages.
  • Motorists should expect traffic delays. The project area is considered an active work zone. Please use caution while driving in this area.
  • Please observe and obey all traffic management personnel, signage and devices.
  • Bikers and pedestrians should use caution while using the leisure trails along Sea Pines drive from Lighthouse Road to Baynard Cove Road. Full closure of the leisure trials in the project zone are expected and will be announced in advance.

Construction and Delivery Restriction in the North Sea Pines Drive Area:

  • If you reside in the Sea Pines Drive Area between Lighthouse Road and Baynard Cove Road, including Red Cardinal Road, Snowy Egret Road, Wagon Road, and Sandhill Crane Road and have planned construction or a delivery occurring during the project period you are asked to contact Sea Pines Security at 843.671.7170 for advanced approval.

6/15/23- Sea Pines Drive Phase 3 Infrastructure Improvement Project Nearing Completion

Road Closure at the intersection of South Sea Pines Drive and Wagon Road will be in Place on 4/24

  • A Roadway closure will be in place at the intersection of South Sea Pines Drive and Wagon Road Monday, April 24th from 8 AM- 5 PM.

Stormwater Drainage Work on Wagon Road

Project work will not take place from April 10-April 16 due to the RBC Heritage Tournament.

  • Drain pipe excavation and replacements in this area will resume the week of April 17th and will take approximately 2-3 more weeks to complete, weather permitting.
  • Single-lane road closures and flagging operations will be in place.
  • Please avoid traveling on Wagon Road when possible. No Thru Traffic.
South Sea Pines Drive Leisure Trail Timber Bridge Replacement Project

Final completion of the new leisure trail pedestrian bridge located along South Sea Pines Drive in proximity to Beach Marker #24 (located between Black Skimmer Lane and Royal Tern Road) will take approximately 2 more weeks, weather permitting.

In the meantime, temporary rails have been installed and the bridge is open and available for use.


3/30/23 –

  • Paving operations along Sea Pines Drive from Greenwood Drive to Baynard Cove Road is scheduled to be completed this week, weather permitting.
  • Crews are also applying temporary line stripping to the paved roadway and then will return after the necessary curing period to complete permanent line stripping, crosswalk stamping and install roadway reflectors.
  • Single-lane road closures and flagging operations will be in place.
  • Motorists should expect significant traffic delays.
  • Please use caution while driving in this area and observe the work zone speed limit of 15 mph and obey all traffic management personnel, signage and devices.

Leisure Trail Construction and Enhancements from Lighthouse Road to Greenwood Drive/Sea Pines Drive Intersection to Begin Next Week

Tree work planned on North Sea Pines Drive between Woodbine Road and Greenwood Lane

  • In preparation for upcoming roadway construction, tree work is planned between Woodbine Road and Greenwood Lane on North Sea Pines Drive.
  • Traffic control will be in place with flagging operations, and single-lane closures will be utilized.

Snowy Egret Road

  • Paving operations on Snowy Egret Road are scheduled for Friday, December 16, weather permitting.

North Sea Pines Drive 

  • Roadway asphalt repairs along North Sea Pines were conducted on Wednesday, December 14th (pictured).
  • Our contractor will be returning on Monday, December 19th to continue roadway asphalt repairs on North Sea Pines Drive from Spotted Sandpiper Road to Oyster Catcher Road, weather permitting.
  • Traffic control will be in place with alternating single-lane closures in the designated work zone. Please observe and obey all traffic management personnel, signage, detours and devices.

  • Roadway asphalt repairs will occur Wednesday, December 14th on North Sea Pines Drive from Red Cardinal Road to Oyster Catcher Road and also near Sandhill Crane Road, weather permitting.
  • Crews will utilize single-lane closures along this roadway to accommodate the work. Traffic delays are expected.

  • Milling followed by paving operations are in progress and will be completed by the end of this week, weather permitting.
