Biking Ambassador Program Seeks Volunteers

The volunteer program was started by the Town of Hilton Head’s Bicycle advisory Committee three years ago as part of its “Bicycle Friendly Community” designation.

The goal of the program is to enhance the safety and general quality of bike and leisure trails throughout the island, for the enjoyment of bicyclists and others who use them. Our services to the community include providing trail maps and safety flyers and assisting cyclists with their questions. Volunteers typically ride two hour shifts on Sundays or Mondays primarily during the busy summer season from May 28 to August 7. They may also “post” themselves at the map kiosks to answer questions.

All Ambassadors must undergo a two-hour training session and wear identifying yellow vests or t-shirts marked “HHI Biking Ambassadors.” 2017 training sessions have been set for Wednesday May 10 and June 7 from 6 to 8 PM at the Palmetto Dunes Fire Station.
