Community Updates

SPCSA Community Update 8.8.24

Tropical Storm Debby Recovery Update
Sea Pines CSA teams are in full storm recovery and restoration mode. They will be working throughout the community to facilitate storm clean-up efforts, which will continue through the weekend.

Sea Pines CSA Operation Updates & Notices:

  • Due to the amount of debris and cleanup, there will be service delays for SPCSA neighborhood debris collection and mulch deliveries.
  • At this time, please reserve calls to the Sea Pines CSA Maintenance Department for critical/emergency purposes only as staff are focusing on major cleanup priorities and working through storm-related work orders.
  • The Sea Pines Forest Preserve walking entrance will remain closed until further notice. For access to the Forest Preserve, please use the driving entrance located on Lawton Canal Road.
  • Six Oaks Cemetery will remain closed until further notice.

Stormwater Management:

  • Our team has placed large portable high-volume dewatering pumps in strategic locations throughout the community to assist in lowering lagoon levels. Because of the excessive rainfall and saturated ground, we will maintain low lagoon levels over the coming days. This is a proactive measure to help ground water to drain.
  • They continue to actively monitor the tidal control structures on our lagoon system to prevent as much tidal inflow as possible. Additionally, they are actively managing the Lawton Canal pump station to move water out of the community.

Roadside Debris Cleanup and Removal

Clearing Debris of Roadways

Debris Piles and Debris Collection Reminders:

  • Vegetative Storm Debris should be stacked at designated SPCSA roadside debris pickup sites. If the debris site is full, do not block roads, driveways, or create traffic visibility hazards. Do NOT place trash in debris pickup piles.
  • DO NOT pile any storm debris in roadside ditches, block the pipe ends with debris in ditches, or stack on catch basins/inlets. Clear drainage ditches and catch basins play an important role in stormwater management and can help prevent road flooding in our community.
  • Commercial landscapers are NOT permitted to dump landscaping debris in the neighborhood drop sites or roadside within Sea Pines. Landscape companies are directed to transport debris to the Debris Recycling Facility. Please note: This facility does not have the ability to process material in a diameter of 6 inches and above.

Wildlife Safety: Baby Copperhead Season & Snake Precautions
  • In late summer copperheads give birth to live young, typically six to seven babies, although it can be as many as 15.
  • Young copperheads are 8 to 10 inches long and are born with both fangs and venom.
  • The young have bright yellow tail tips that they wiggle to attract prey such as frogs and lizards.

Outdoor Snake Safety Precautions:

  • If you are out at night, always use a flashlight, because most snakes are active on warm nights. Shine before your step.
  • Never pick up or attempt to move a snake.
  • Don’t put your hands or feet in places where you can’t see.
  • Wear leather gloves if you have to handle debris, logs, rocks and other objects where a snake could be hiding.
  • Wear high boots, gaiters and thick pants when working or walking in grassy or wooded areas.
  • Remove piles of brush and leaves well away from walkways and play areas.

To report a wildlife concern, please contact the Sea Pines Security Department at 843.671.7170.
