Being safe means always being aware of your surroundings. Alligator nesting season has begun. The nests are constructed of vegetation and materials from the surrounding habitat which is sometimes difficult to see. We have added signs where we are aware of an active alligator nest to help bring it to your attention.
Female alligators are very protective of their eggs and young, so please be observant and keep a safe distance. While walking at dusk or after dark (when alligators are most active), always carry a flashlight. Click here for Safety Tips and Facts To Keep in Mind During Alligator Breeding Season.
If you encounter an alligator that you think is acting aggressively, immediately call the Sea Pines Security dispatch office at 843.671.7170 to report it’s behavior and location.
