Standing Water Update 8.27.25

With nearly 30 inches of rainfall this month, many of you have contacted us about standing water throughout our community. We want to explain why this is happening and what to expect.

Why am I see standing water on my street? After such exceptional rainfall, our water table (the underground level where soil is saturated) has risen unusually high. Think of the soil as a full sponge—additional water has nowhere to go and pools on the surface. This creates standing water in low-lying yards and open spaces that would normally absorb rainfall just fine.

Is this temporary? Yes. Standing water will gradually recede as nature restores balance through:

  • Groundwater draining into ditches, creeks, and lagoons
  • Plants and trees absorbing water through their roots
  • Sun and wind removing moisture through evaporation

The timing depends on soil type, rainfall amounts, and groundwater levels.

How is Sea Pines CSA Responding? Our maintenance team is actively helping the drainage process by:

  • Inspecting and cleaning storm drains, ditches, and culverts
  • Maintaining swales to direct surface water away from yards
  • Monitoring problem areas for temporary measures
  • Managing lagoon levels to allow groundwater flow

We appreciate your patience as nature and our drainage systems work together to restore normal conditions. Please contact our Maintenance Department with any specific concerns at csamaintenance@csaseapines.com.
