Wildlife Safety Reminder: Peak “Rut Season” for Deer

Exercise caution around the community as bucks are less cautious during this time and may be more approachable. Admire wildlife from a safe distance and keep your dog close on a leash. Please remember the following while driving in Sea Pines:

  • Slow Down. Drive at slower speeds during dawn and dusk hours when deer are known to be more active. Also, remember that deer often travel in herds, so if you see one animal there may be others in the vicinity.
  • Use High Beams. Using your vehicle’s high beams (if possible) can help you spot deer more quickly, which can give you the best opportunity to slow down as you approach.
  • What if my vehicle hits a deer? To report a vehicle collision with a deer within the Sea Pines Community, call Sea Pines Security Dispatch at 843.671.7170. If there are injuries, call 911.

Critical Infrastructure Improvement Projects

Sea Pines Drive Infrastructure Improvement Project: South Sea Pines Drive from Merganser Court to the end of South Sea Pines Drive (stopping at the entrance of Lands End).

  • Major stormwater drainage and roadway work is in progress (pictured) and will continue for the next few months.
  • Single-lane road closures and flagging operations will be in place daily. Motorists should expect traffic delays and possible traffic detours. Please use caution while driving in this area and observe the work zone speed limit of 15 mph and obey all traffic management personnel, signage and devices.
  • Leisure trails in the project area will be closed as needed. For safety, cyclists will be required to dismount and walk bikes around the active work zones. Motorists should be prepared to share the Road with bikers and pedestrians.

Lighthouse Lane Infrastructure Improvement Project: Lighthouse Lane from Lighthouse Road to Mizzenmast Lane.

  • Asphalt milling and temporary roadway paving repairs are in progress (pictured). Once complete, curb and sidewalk restoration will begin on the other side of the road.
  • Single-lane road closures continue to be in place. Motorists should expect traffic delays Monday-Friday.
