Sea Pines CSA Monitoring & Preparing for Tropical Storm Debby

Sea Pines CSA staff continues to monitor and prepare for the potential impacts of the approaching storm. Tropical storm, surge, and flood watches have been issued for our area. A primary concern for our region is the potential for historic rainfall producing widespread severe flash flooding.

The Sea Pines CSA Maintenance storm team will remain onsite to assist with mechanical pumping of critical storm water areas and is prepared to to respond to storm-related events.

• To proactively address the possibility of heavy rainfall, our team has placed large portable high-volume dewatering pumps in strategic locations throughout the community to assist in lowering lagoon levels.
• They will continue to actively monitor the tidal control structures on our lagoon system to prevent as much tidal inflow as possible. Additionally, they are actively managing the Lawton Canal pump station to move water out of the community.

Now is the time to check your emergency plan and emergency supplies kit and take necessary actions to protect your home. If you have not done so already, please take this time to secure anything that may be impacted by tropical storm force winds. We will continue to keep the community updated as we receive information or need to modify our services. Closures affecting the Sea Pines Forest Preserve, Six Oaks Cemetery, Tower Beach, the Community Center, and the Administration Building will depend on the final track and intensity of the storm.

Beaufort County Opening Sandbag Filling Stations Ahead of Tropical Storm Debby

Hours of Operation:

Sunday August 4, 2024; 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., or while supplies last

Bags and sand supplies are free, but limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis, until we run out. Contractors will not be allowed to utilize this service.

Track Update: Increasing confidence Tropical Storm Debby will stall/move very slowly near the area midweek. Exact track and intensity details remain uncertain when the storm reaches GA/SC. Additional forecast adjustments likely.

Rainfall Flooding: Potential for HISTORIC rainfall amounts. Expected rainfall amounts continue to increase as confidence increases that Debby will stall near the region from mid to potentially late week. Widespread, severe flash flooding likely.

• Storm Total Rainfall Amounts: 10-20 inches, with local amounts approaching 30 inches. Historical Context: For an event of this duration, these amounts have a 0.2% to 0.1% chance of happening in any given year!

Wind and Storm Surge: Confidence is gradually increasing in elevated to moderate impacts, especially for coastal areas.

• 2-4 Feet of Storm Surge Inundation over normally dry tidal/near tidal regions.
• Most Likely Time this area could see Tropical Storm Force Winds: Monday night
