Sea Pines CSA Monitoring Hurricane Milton (10.9.24 @ 1:30 PM)

Sea Pines CSA staff is actively monitoring Hurricane Milton and the potential impacts to our area. Although Milton will pass well south of the area, significant impacts will extend for several hundred miles from where the center tracks.

A Tropical Storm Watch and Storm Surge Watch are in effect for our area. Tropical storm force winds are forecast to begin impacting the area early Thursday morning and continue through Thursday night. Please take this time to secure anything that may be impacted by tropical storm force winds. National Weather Service– Charleston Office: 12:30 PM Hurricane Milton Briefing

Situation Overview:

  • Milton is currently a dangerous CAT 4 Hurricane. A slow weakening trend and expanding wind field expected for the next few days.
  • Local impacts of concern:
    • Storm surge/coastal flooding: Storm Surge Inundation of 2-4 feet above normally dry ground. Highest Tide levels expected to be Thursday afternoon.
    • Gusty winds: Expected max wind gusts of 30-45 mph. Trees/limbs may break easier due to being weakened from Helene.
    • Dangerous marine conditions: Breaking waves of as high as 5-8 ft possible tonight into Friday. Significant beach erosion is expected.
