A Message From The Sea Pines CSA Board Chair

December 10, 2025

Dear Sea Pines property owners,

As my term on the Board ends on December 31, I want to take this opportunity to reflect on what we have accomplished together during my time as Chair and to share my gratitude for the privilege of serving this community.

Over the past three years, we have achieved remarkable progress—from major infrastructure improvements to expanded community services, from enhanced leadership to operational excellence. These accomplishments reflect the combined efforts of our property owners who voted by an 88% majority to increase their assessment, the Board who sets policies and guidance, and CEO Sam Bennett and his dedicated staff, who lead us and do the real work.

You can find a detailed report of our Strategic Accomplishments from 2023-2025 here.

When we work together, we can accomplish so much more.

When I became Chair, I envisioned combining the best features of a private corporation and government by making CSA more open, transparent, and focused on building trust through our actions. My goal was to bring calm, harmony, and good will to our community. Sea Pines is unique. We’re more than a residential community: we have commercial interests, large enterprises, full-time and part-time residents, renters, and investors. Each has legitimate concerns. Good government means finding cooperation for everyone’s benefit. It is not one or the other, it is all of us in this together.

I was fortunate to work alongside Sam Bennett, whose local government background aligned perfectly with our service-focused mission. When I joined the Board, CSA had 13 lawsuits. Today we have just 3, with 1 that CSA initiated. Priority became resolving problems and serving our members.

I’m a Country Lawyer from a small town in Mississippi and my path has been simple: decide what is right and good, then act. I stay true to my principles and work in the best interests of our community. For those who have lived here a while—do you remember the community ever being this calm and content? Everything isn’t perfect, but things are a lot better than before.

I love Sea Pines, the people who make it special, and the life we share here. While my formal role as Chair is ending, my commitment continues. I am announcing my intention to run for Hilton Head Island Town Council in the 2026 election as the representative from our ward, where I can continue advocating for Sea Pines in new ways.

As we head into the new year, I want to wish you and your families a joyful holiday season. Thank you for allowing me to serve. Thanks to the CSA Board for your cooperation, intelligence, and wisdom, and to Sam Bennett and all the CSA staff who truly bring everything together and make CSA what it is today. Here’s to a wonderful year ahead for Sea Pines and all who live, visit, work, and do business here.

With gratitude,

David Ellis
