Event Information: Participants will be treated to an explanation of the ongoing archaeological work by Dr. Matthew C. Sanger and his team. Those attending will be able to view a display of artifacts and the active excavation site. The Team will present an explanation of their work at this site.
At the conclusion of the program, the attendees will have an opportunity to enjoy light refreshments while socializing with the archaeological team.
Excavation Program: Archaeologists from Binghamton University are visiting the Sea Pines Shell Ring for their third field season. The research, led by Assistant Professor Matthew C. Sanger, will include mapping and excavations to investigate the history of this ancient site.
Shell Ring History: The Sea Pines Shell Ring is roughly 4,000 years old and is on the National Register of Historical Places. It is 1 of approximately 50 currently known to exist and is one of the best preserved.
